The Success Awards Evening that the Cyprus Turkish Football Association (CTFA) organizes at the end of each season was realized this year on June 1st 2014. Mr. Jerome Champagne, the CTFA Adviser and Candidate for FIFA President as well as the CFA President Kostakis Koutsokoumnis were among those who attended the event. Both federations’ Presidents gave very important messages in the evening about the reunification of Cypriot football.
At the awards ceremony that took place at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Nicosia, all the teams that qualified in the leagues and cups during the 2013-2014 football season, as well as those who were awarded in the categories of gentlemanship and goal scoring received their awards. The Special Service Award was given to Metin Ertop, the President of Zümrütköy (Kato Kopia) Football Club for almost 30 years of services.
CTFA President Sertoğlu: “Our aim is the reunification of Cypriot football”
Mr. Sertoğlu did the first speech at the event. “This awards ceremony is both the evening of the season’s successfull ones and at the same time the last event of mine and my team. I have declared that I am running for Presidency again at our General Assembly on June 21st. I have explained many times the reason why. There is only one reason and that is the reunification of football in the island. We have been going through tough times. We managed to bring CTFA to a nice point. We are discussing with my friends about our international relations. We are not looking for excuses to ruin the process like our predecessors did. If myself or Mr. Koutsokoumnis wanted to ruin the process, we could have done so not just once but 100 times. We are living in this island for years. We need to solve this problem since our children are going to live here too. I hope that our political leaders will be faster in solving the problem. Certain circles are criticising me a lot for my stance in this process. Some are also criticising me for praising Mr. Özkan Yorgancıoğlu for his support to our cause. Well, I will do it once again since he is the only Turkish Cypriot politicians who is with us tonight giving us support. I would like to thank him on behalf of Turkish Cypriot football and youth.’’
CFA President Koutsokoumnis: “There is hope for our children and for football on the table”
After Mr. Sertoğlu, Mr. Koutsokoumnis took the floor and said: “I believe that actions speak louder than words. This process that we are going through are about actions. The fact that we are here today is the biggest proof fort hat. We launched this journey 2 years ago. On the table there is hope for Cyprus, for our children and for football. We need to achieve this. I would like to extend heartfelt thanks for the invitation tonight. Being here is an honour for me. I would like to congratulate everyone who has been successful in the CTFA Leagues.”
Prime Minister Yorgancıoğlu: “I congratulate both Federation Presidents”
Prime Minister Özkan Yorgancıoğlu who spoke after both Presidents said: “Sports is all about friendship and brotherhood. Tonight the two football federations have exhibited the best example of this. I congratulate both of them. I would also like to thank those who support us through their sponsorships. They are contributing tremendously to the easing of the weight off of the shoulders of club managers.” All the teams that qualified in the leagues and cups during the 2013-2014 football season, as well as those who were awarded in the categories of gentlemanship and goal scoring received their awards afterwards.
